One of the main achievements of the Occupy movement has been the opening up of new spaces of transformation, resistance and revolution, breaking the claustrophobic confines of the geography of global capital. The movement itself breaks the boundaries of accepted political terminology, opting to trouble the reigning order by speaking from a position outside of the official political discourse. |

Call for papers:Digcult #12 Theory, Context and the Internet |

Drawing on the success of the 2008-2010 Digital Cultures workshops, we will host the first Digital Cultures conference in June 2012.
In a world of virtual communication and social media, it can be argued that we face challenges regarding the theorization and contextualisation of Internet mediated activity. The desire to generate new knowledge coupled with the hyperbole and ‘upgrade me’ mindset that so often surrounds the Internet means that often new theoretical approaches are introduced as a way to understand current uses and meanings where perhaps they are not necessary.

En respuesta a las necesidades y demandas de la región, LACNIC ha logrado un nuevo acuerdo que permitirá dar continuidad al trabajo del Fondo Regional para la Innovación Digital en América Latina y el Caribe (FRIDA), el que desde el año 2004 ha financiado más de 50 proyectos de innovación en TICs en 15 países de la región. El acuerdo firmado con el IDRC de Canadá, implica disponibilidad de financiamiento para 3 años más y la conformación de una alianza global con ISIF, una iniciativa gemela de APNIC que opera en Asia y Pacífico y la creación de un programa similar por parte de AfriNIC, para África.
